Teach science methods courses and other courses in the Education and Special Education Department as needed and as fit candidate qualifications; model various approaches and best practices in science teaching; assume primary responsibility for the development and writing of NCATE and Pennsylvania Department of Education assessment and accreditation reports related to the secondary and middle science programs; advise education students and act as liaison between the education and science departments. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively and advise a diverse student population, engage in research and other discipline-related scholarly activities, make professional and university service contributions, and advance Science Education at Mansfield University. Excellence in teaching effectiveness, in scholarship, and in service to the department and the university is required for tenure and promotion.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements: Earned doctorate in Education or one of the natural science disciplines
(Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Geography, Geology, Physics, or a closely related field) and
teaching certification in a secondary science. A background appropriate to teaching science
education courses in a BSED program; three years minimum experience teaching science in a U.S. or
Canadian K-12/13 setting. Other conditions of employment include verification of all earned degrees
and certification through the receipt of original transcripts and an acceptable background check
report. Additional qualifications: Demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the
ability to support Mansfield University's principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture,

the University's strong student-centered vision and mission. Preferred: Experience teaching science
education in a university setting; evidence of ability to teach graduate education courses;

Essential Functions
Teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth, and
service to the department, university, and community. Effective communication and skills in current
digital technologies in education and science and a willingness to adapt as new technologies evolve.
Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. Ability to travel to area schools to
supervise field experiences, as needed. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc.
Status
Tenure-track position beginning with the 2012 Fall Semester; Assistant or
Associate Professor rank. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.
