DIY Survival Gear - Building a Survival Kit - Part Four - Fire

In Building a Survival Kit - Part Three , several additional gear items were added to our survival kit. These items included an LED light, cordage and a small sewing kit. This time we will be adding our fire-making tools. The ability to start a fire is one of the most important abilities needed in a survival situation. It is also important to remember that our goal is to build a quality survival kit that will be easy to use by any member of your family.
The sixth item that will be added to our survival kit is a small mini Bic lighter. A simple lighter will give you the ability to start a fire in an emergency. A mini Bic was chosen for its size and weight but a full size Bic lighter could be used. This gear item adds $ .50 to the cost (a three pack of mini Bic lighters normally costs about a $1.50) and an additional ounce of weight to our survival kit.

The seventh item that will be added to our survival kit is a magnesium firestarter. This will give you not only an optional method to start a fire but will also supply you with a source of tinder if needed. The firesteel on the side of the magnesium block can also be used by itself to start a fire. The striker, which is actually a piece of hacksaw blade, could also be used to cut wire or metal if needed. This gear item adds approximately $4.50 to the cost and an additional 2 ounces of weight to our survival kit. In a survival situation, the ability to make a fire will be an important and critical part of your survival. Having two different means to start a fire in your kit will increase your chances of being able to make a fire for warmth, light and cooking. Mullen High School?s Sports Placed On Probation

DENVER (AP) ? High school football powerhouse Mullen High School has been placed on probation for one year following an investigation by the state athletic body.

The Denver Post reports that former head football coach Dave Logan was not the target of the investigation by the Colorado High School Activities Association.

Logan had a 110-12 record and four state championships during nine years at Mullen before the school fired him in January. He is now the head coach at Cherry Creek High School.

CHSSA commissioner Paul Angelico in a statement issued Friday says the school has taken ?appropriate action to prevent a reoccurrence.? Details of the alleged violation were not released by CHSSA.

The school will be allowed to play in the postseason.

Blake Jenner Wins The Glee Project!

Blake Jenner has earned a role on Glee Season 4.

Following an opening season in which Ryan Murphy actually awarded all three finalists with at least some appearance on his Fox hit, the creator said prior to Season 2 that only the actual winner would appear on Glee in 2012-2013.

The Glee Project Final Three

So, how did Jenner pull it out and earn himself a seven-episode stint?

He took on "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain for his final performance, tossing the microphone in a bit of fun showboating - and also writing a poem! That likely put him over the winning edge in the judges' eyes.

The panelists conferred and while all admired Aylin for her personal story, they gushed over Blake's acting skills and Ali's personality.

In the end, the acting won out. But should have? Did Blake Jenner deserve to win season two The Glee Project?

vetapabon: arthurturner10: Special Reference and Education

Certified nursing assistants (CNA) have obviously undergone training classes and passed the certification exam in their line of work. Your interest in the profession, as evidenced by your reading of this article, may well be the start of a better life for yourself and your family. After all, nursing aides working in hospitals, nursing homes and long-term healthcare facility can earn as much as $34, 000 a year! Of course, you must first enroll in CNA training classes in order to acquire formal education on the what, how and why of the profession. Only after your successful completion of the program will you be able to take the CNA certification exam and, hopefully, pass it.

Variety of Options

One of the good things about acquiring the formal education toward becoming a certified nursing assistant is the abundance of establishments offering said programs. You can choose from:

• Technical-vocational colleges

• Universities and colleges with a medical education unit

• Community colleges in your area

• Red Cross organizations in the United States

• Accredited online sites

Finding schools and websites that offer CNA training classes is easy - just take a look around your neighborhood, ask local education authorities, and browse the Internet. The hard part comes in choosing the best schools for your needs and wants (i.e., budget, distance and curriculum) as well as in choosing the accredited establishment. The accreditation aspect should be your first priority since you cannot take the CNA certification exam if and when you acquired your training from a non-accredited school or website.

Length of Classes

Depending on the program, you can expect to spend anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 weeks in classroom instruction for a certain number of hours. For example, the Red Cross program consists of 171 hours of classroom instruction and clinical work while other schools and sites trim the hours down to just 75 hours and 16 hours, respectively.

Lessons Learned

The classroom instruction and clinical work are all designed to equip the students with the right professional skills and personal qualities essential in excellent patient care. It should be noted that certified nursing assistants are the front-liners of the healthcare establishment that patients come in most contact with.

The lessons during classroom instruction and clinical work include:

• Basic knowledge and skills on patient care including personal hygiene, transfer from bed to wheelchair, and toileting.

• Primary health issues affecting elderly patients and individuals with disabilities, among other types of patients.

• Basic prevention and control of infections in healthcare settings like hospitals and nursing homes.

• Documentation of certain procedures like taking vital signs and formal protocol in healthcare settings.

• Emergency responses like CPR and basic life support techniques.

These classes are challenging but rewarding in so many ways but you have to participate first to understand.

Lawsuit filed in Calif. over Brockovich chemical

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) ? Environmental groups filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the California Department of Public Health for failing to establish a safe drinking water standard for the cancer-causing chemical made famous in the film "Erin Brockovich."

The Natural Resources Defense Council and the Environmental Working Group claim the department is eight years late in setting the hexavalent chromium standard and has made no progress toward the goal.

The lawsuit claims the delay is unjustified and seeks a court order setting a faster timeline.

Studies show that hexavalent chromium, also known as chromium-6, can cause cancer in people and has been found to cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract, lymph nodes and liver of animals.

The chemical comes chiefly from industrial pollution ? it's used for production of stainless steel, textile dyes, wood preservation, leather tanning and as an anti-corrosive ? but also occurs naturally.

The dangers of chromium-6 became widely known after the film "Erin Brockovich" exposed the case of Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. The utility was accused of leaking the contaminant into the groundwater of Hinckley, a small desert town, causing health problems including cancer.

A year later in 2001, the California legislature directed public health agencies to set an enforceable drinking water standard for the chemical by 2004.

The process was delayed due to a scientific dispute over whether chromium-6 is carcinogenic when ingested in water, said Sam Delson, deputy director for external and legislative affairs at the California Environmental Protection Agency. It has long been established that chromium-6 is carcinogenic when inhaled.

Federal scientists at the National Toxicology Program confirmed in 2007 that it's also carcinogenic when ingested.

The California EPA then set a "public health goal" ? a preliminary benchmark in creating a drinking water standard ? for hexavalent chromium. But in 2010, the agency recommended stricter limits after research showed that fetuses, infants and children are more susceptible than adults to the cancer-causing effects of the chemical. That goal was set last year at .02 parts of hexavalent chromium per billion parts of water.

Results of state water quality testing conducted between 2000 and 2011 throughout California showed that about a third of the 7,000 drinking water sources tested had chromium-6 levels at or above that limit.

The highest concentrations were reported in southern California, including in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Santa Barbara counties.

Using the benchmark, the Department of Public Health must develop the standard as close as possible to the health goal, factoring in the technical feasibility and costs of water testing and treatment.

Department of Public Health spokesman Ken August said there is no typical timeline for how long it takes to develop a standard. The agency is currently preparing a cost-benefit analysis, he said, and will take another two to three years to establish the standard.

There is no federal standard for chromium-6. Last year, the U.S. EPA released recommendations for enhanced monitoring of the chemical in public water systems and is conducting a review of chromium-6 to decide whether to set a nationwide standard.

'Vomit drink' nauseated North America

Caffeine-loaded black drinks apparently dominated the heartland of America earlier than once thought ? a beverage neither coffee nor cola, but instead brewed from holly leaves, researchers say.

The ancient people may have downed the brew before ritual vomiting as part of purification ceremonies, the scientists added.

The discovery was made after investigating artifacts from Cahokia, " North America's first city," researcher Thomas Emerson, director of the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, told LiveScience.

Cahokia existed near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers from about 1050 to 1350 in what is now in St. Louis, East St. Louis and the surrounding five counties, and inspired short-lived settlements as far away as Wisconsin. The core of this society, Greater Cahokia, had as many as 50,000 residents in its heyday living amidst earthen mounds, some more than 100 feet (30 meters) in height, making it the largest prehistoric North American settlement north of Mexico.

Even after decades of research, archaeologists are at a loss to explain the sudden emergence of Greater Cahokia and its rapid decline, but its influences on art, religion and architecture are seen as far away as Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Wisconsin, Emerson said.

Brew beakers
Archaeologist Patricia Crown at the University of New Mexico and chemist Jeffrey Hurst at the Hershey Technical Center in Pennsylvania analyzed plant residues in eight mug-shaped pottery beakers from Greater Cahokia and its surroundings. They found signs they once held "black drink," a caffeinated brew made from the toasted leaves of the Yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria) that grew more than 300 miles (480 kilometers) to the south.

"We're not sure when Native Americans stopped using black drink," Emerson said. "I think its use went more into the closet, due to pressure from Europeans to drop pagan practices."

For many tribes of Native Americans, the black drink was a key component of purification rituals before war parties, religious ceremonies, important political councils or other important events. Rapid consumption of large quantities of the hot drink preceded ritual vomiting as part of the purification rituals. People in South America continue to make drinks from varieties of holly, such as yerba mat? and t? o' mat?, albeit in more relaxed contexts. [ Top 10 Extreme Religious Sects ]

"It's always described by Europeans and people who have consumed it as something tasting like tea," Emerson said.

Cahokia trade
The presence of Cahokia biochemicals ? such as theobromine, caffeine and ursolic acid ? in the black drink suggests the people had a substantial trade network with the Southeast. Other artifacts suggested Cahokia also traded with groups ranging from the Gulf Coast to the eastern plains and the Great Lakes, such as marine shells and shark teeth.

"I would argue that it was the first pan-Indian city in North America, because there are both widespread contacts and emigrants," Emerson said. "The evidence from artifacts indicates that people from a broad region, what is now the Midwest and southeast U.S., were in contact with Cahokia. This is a level of population density, a level of political organization that has not been seen before in North America."

How this early city held together for as long as it did has remained a mystery.

"People have said, well, how would you integrate this?" Emerson said. "One of the obvious ways is through religion." [ 8 Ways Religion Impacts Your Life ]

The black drink was used in Cahokia at the same time a series of sophisticated figurines representing the underworld, agricultural fertility and life-renewal were carved from local pipestone. Most of these statuettes were linked with temple sites.

"We postulate that this new pattern of agricultural religious symbolism is tied to the rise of Cahokia, and now we have black drink to wash it down with," Emerson said.

Religious symbolism
The beakers appear ceremonial themselves. Many of these single-serving unglazed pots, which possess a handle on one side and a tiny lip on the other, are carved with symbols representing water and the underworld and are reminiscent of the whelk shells used in black drink ceremonies seen centuries later in the Southeast, where the Yaupon holly grows.

"We think one way to connect all these people is through fertility and life-renewal symbolism and religion, and the presence of black drink ceremonial items out even in rural farms and small villages outside Cahokia more or less supports that idea," Emerson said.

The beakers date from 1050 to 1250, the earliest known use of black drink by at least 500 years.

"This finding brings to us a whole wide spectrum of religious and symbolic behavior at Cahokia that we could only speculate about in the past," Emerson said. "Cahokia may have been the birthplace of many of the political, social and religious concepts that typified the societies of the Southeast between 1100 and 1600 A.D. The presence of black drink supports the idea that North America's first city was of critical importance in the future development of native societies in the eastern woodlands of the United States.

"Tracing the geographical spread and history of black drink will be a challenge," Emerson added. "We have established its use at 1050 A.D. in Cahokia, but other archaeologists have speculated that it may have been in use as early as the time of Christ. Now that we have found it 300 miles outside of its native range, it means that we cannot automatically assume it was not exported to many areas. The testing of vessels across much of the eastern U.S. will be a slow and time-consuming job."

The scientists detailed their findings online Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Community Church takes Stand on Religious Freedom

A community church takes a stand on religious freedom.

Recently an activist group for separation of church and state in Washington D.C. wrote the town of Dugger to remove the two story cross that sits on town property along S.R. 64.

The group says Dugger is violating the law.

NBC 2's Paige Preusse introduces us the church that put up the cross. and refuses to take it down.

"For whatever reason they want to take away the Christian liberties, but everyone else is free to do what they want to do, and that is disturbing," said Ann Brown with Whosoever Will?Full Gospel Church.

It's how the majority of the congregation at Whosoever Will Full Gospel feels after receiving activist group Americans United for Separation of Church and State's request to tear down the town approved cross they built two years ago.

"We don't dissagree with their ultimate goal, but we do dissagree with the method," said Chip?Langley.

Pastor Chip Langley says their request doesn't reflect the concept of separation of church and state, something he agrees with.

"It's kind of odd because we believe the same thing please don't as a government tell the people how to worship, and I believe that's at the foundation of our country," continued Langley.

He says it's not necessarily the structure that they want to remain, but it's symbolism.

"We want to make sure that the message remains. That's why it's important that the cross stays and the message be known abroad," said Langley.

Meanwhile they say they won't take the cross down, but will carry out the Christian method.

"We are for Christ, we are not against people, and so the message that we want to make sure remains is Christ saves, Jesus saves," said Langley.

Drawing more believers to stand up for their savior.

"It's bringing a lot of people out of the woodwork, standing up for Jesus who normally wouldn't. So I'm not saying it's all bad," said Cody Lafever.

"Not only will he save people, but our nation right now with everything that we're going through," said Ashley Lafever

Church staff say the town council is considering selling the property so that it becomes private property.

They are also considering a legal battle once they hear back from the group after not complying to their request.

Roger GoodellAP

Not that anyone expected him to change his mind, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was firm Saturday, insisting the Saints operated a pay-to-injure program.

Goodell spoke to a small group of reporters including Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune while at a Pee Wee football event in Akron, and said the evidence he gathered made it clear there was a bounty system and a clear plan to cover it up.

?Well, the No. 1 thing is when you reward players for injuring other opponents, that?s a bounty,? Goodell said. ?That?s not pay for performance, that?s a bounty. And that?s what the players and, I believe, [Saints linebackers] Coach [Joe] Vitt said occurred. And that?s what our evidence indicates. So when you?re doing that, anything that would target or reward people for injuring other players, that?s not part of football. ?That?s not what we?re teaching these kids, and it?s not what we?re going to do in the NFL.?

Goodell denied that the Saints and the league are involved in a stand-off that comes down to definitions, saying that terms such as ?cart-offs? and ?whacks? are clear.

?That?s not semantics,? Goodell said. ?They understand the rules. When you reward somebody for injuring somebody ? and the only way you cart off somebody is when they?re injured. So that?s an injury. So when you do that, that?s not semantics.?

?We also have evidence that players were targeted, as we?ve indicated to you all and told you.?

Goodell said the league also has more evidence than has been shared with the media so far, and that the Saints could have mitigated some of the damage if they have cooperated with the initial investigation after the 2009 season.

?Sure, the fact that they said it didn?t happen and they continued to do it is certainly a big issue,? Goodell said.

Goodell?s in Ohio for today?s Hall of Fame ceremony, and said he had no plans to meet with Saints players or coaches prior to tomorrow?s Hall of Fame Game, since he?s leaving town tonight.

NASA taps Boeing, SpaceX, Sierra Nevada to develop new spacecraft

On a cloudless morning, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden stood at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. ? where the U.S. dominated human spaceflight for half a century ? and revealed plans for the space agency's next chapter.

On Friday, NASA handed out $1.1 billion in contracts to three companies to privately develop a new generation of spacecraft that could one day ferry astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

Now that the space shuttle fleet has been retired, NASA has no way to travel to the space station other than shelling out $63 million each time one of its astronauts rides on a Russian Soyuz rocket.

"By investing in American companies and American ingenuity, we're spurring free-market competition to give taxpayers more bang for the buck," Bolden said during the news conference. "We're also making important progress toward ending the outsourcing of American aerospace jobs and bringing them right back to Florida and other states all across this country."

Southern California's aerospace industry was a major beneficiary of the announcement. Hawthorne-based rocket maker Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, won $440 million from NASA to develop its hardware. And Boeing Co., which develops spacecraft in Huntington Beach and uses rocket engines made by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, won $460 million.

And $212.5 million went to Sierra Nevada Corp. of Sparks, Nev., which is building a space plane that resembles a miniature space shuttle.

The awards are part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which lays the groundwork for a new reliance on private companies to transport astronauts.

NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver, who was visiting Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Ca?ada Flintridge in anticipation of Sunday's Mars rover landing, said the companies have plenty of work ahead.

"We anticipate a lot of exciting things from these companies over the next 21 months," she said. "NASA is ready to loosen its grip and let these companies take over."

The overall design of NASA's previous space-going vehicles and their missions were tightly controlled by the government and contracted to aerospace giants.

This time, Boeing engineers in Huntington Beach and Houston are working on their own to develop a seven-person spaceship, dubbed the Crew Space Transportation-100, that is designed to fly atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

The company, which has built nearly every manned spacecraft in U.S. history, expects the space capsule to be ready for test flights by 2016.

John Elbon, Boeing vice president and general manager of space exploration, said in a teleconference that the company would be celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2016.

"It will be really sweet to celebrate 100 years as a company with the first flight of CST-100," he said.

Of the three contract winners, though, SpaceX is the only company to have its new technology proved in space.

In May, SpaceX became the first private company to launch an unmanned spacecraft into orbit and have it dock with the International Space Station. The Dragon capsule was carrying only supplies at the time, but only the world's most powerful government entities had previously accomplished the technological and financial feat.

In a teleconference, SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk said that the Dragon could have carried an astronaut during the mission, but that it still needed "upgrades to take safety to a whole new level."

SpaceX engineers are designing an abort system for the capsule that would enable astronauts to escape injury if a launch went wrong. The company is also adding more advanced oxygen systems, temperature controls and other life-sustaining instruments.

The Dragon capsule is designed to carry seven astronauts. The company is aiming for a manned test flight by 2015.

With about 1,800 employees, SpaceX is a fraction of the size of competitor Boeing, which has 170,000 people across the U.S. and about 70 other countries.

Musk, 41, said he didn't get much sleep Thursday night because he didn't know what NASA was going to reveal Friday.

"I was quite keen to see the announcement made this morning," he said.

Work Schedules: Gym, Independent, and Corporate Personal Training

Post image for Work Schedules: Gym, Independent, and Corporate Personal Training

The life of a personal trainer is typically bound within the hours that most working professionals aren?t in the office. This means that many personal trainers have shorter vacations and work the before and after hours of the workday. While these hours can at-first seem restricting, many personal trainers find a way to make it work, while others move over to other areas of the personal training to find hours that better suit their needs. The biggest upside might be the need for personal trainers, meaning that if you have the drive, there is always a need for a few extra trainers and instructors.

Becoming a personal trainer can take on different forms, and each has a different lifestyle and work environment. Below are the three main sub groups? of trainers.

Gym:? If you?ve ever been to a Bally?s or XSport Fitness and had someone ask you what your fitness goals were, chances are you were talking to a gym-specific personal trainer. These jobs tend to be a little more difficult to find because the gyms themselves require extra certifications and some even allow you to take on benefits like health care and dental. The pay here is more limited because you work on an hourly wage. However many of the trainers in a gym like Bally?s do private training sessions. These allow the personal trainer to make a more significant hourly income than they would just spotting individuals, or cleaning off gym equipment. While some of the money does get kicked back upstairs, the most successful in-gym trainers can have as many as 40 clients at a time. Scheduled well, that can mean big bucks.

Independent: Maybe the thought of being under the watchful eye of the corporate bosses is too much to take. Then it cold be that going independent is your calling. There are no name tags, or mandated shirts, just you, the client, and some equipment. Many of the country?s largest cities have several personal training gyms to choose from, place where you can train your clients for a usage fee. The rates charged by the personal trainers here are higher, but so are the demands of the clients. Unlike the corporate workouts, these tend to be intensity focused, with the personal trainer taking a n active role in all aspects of their client?s health and fitness. The freedom to operate as your own boss is very attractive to many personal trainers. But beware, it can be a tough transition to get clients. Most trainers earn their new clients through word of mouth, which can take a while to get generated.

Corporate: The cushy gig for many personal trainers is to be brought in-house by a large corporation to help their employees stay healthy. Many of the country?s largest firms (GOOGLE, Apple, IBM) have seen that preventative care is less expensive than high health care costs. Trainers have been brought in to fill that gap. Many of the top positions come after years f hard work and plenty of certifications, but once that?s achieved personal trainers find that they are working more normative hours and collecting a nice paycheck at the end of each month.

So Just What Is Disease? A Grand Unified Theory | Zero To Hero TV ...

So Just What Is Disease? A Grand Unified Theory

Does the common use of the word ?disease? bypass critical reasoning to effectively mislead scientific thought?? Modern medicine describes hundreds of individual ?diseases.?? Each ?disease? is generally named for a group of symptoms and the area of the body affected. Many are suffixed by -itis, meaning inflammation of? like tonsill-itis or arthr-itis.? And interestingly, recent studies are finding inflammation involved in virtually all of them.? Does this terminology serve to pigeonhole distinct ?diseases? and?distract us from seeing the big picture of inflammation as the disease?? Have we been looking at secondary pathologies and opportunistic microbes, and treating them at symptom-level? instead of addressing a common root cause??Is there some imaginary partition that separates human health from chemistry, physics and cell biology?

Whether inflammation is acute like appendicitis or chronic like atherosclerosis and obesity, an immune response is taking place.?In-flam-mation literally means ?on fire? and is classically marked by the Latin: rubor, tumor, calor and dolor ? or redness, swelling, heat and pain ? so we know from those words that oxidation is at work.

Oxidation is simply fire or rust or whenever one molecule seizes an electron from another molecule. The needy oxidant grabs or shares the electrons of an electron rich anti-oxidant. When the electrons are stolen from chemical bonds, those molecules (like DNA) come apart or are deformed (like fats) and said to be oxidized, burnt.

Inflammation does not just happen; a bacterium or toxin or some other irritant triggers an immune response. The ammunition used by the body for immune firefights is singlet oxygen, an all-purpose defensive weapon. With an unpaired electron, an oxygen radical is a powerful oxidant.

It can deconstruct and destroy pathogens, poisons, cell debris and other unwanted substances, molecule by molecule, by snatching the electrons that hold them together.?Immune cells initiate the conflagration, armed with mini-flamethrowers that generate oxidative bursts of singlet oxygen to burn the area clean.

Mounting an oxidative immune response is dependent on the strength of the body?s electrochemical charge, which in turn hinges on a delicate balance between oxidants/acids (both electron-hungry) and?overall body charge.?(This charge is generated in mitochondria and at fluid/membrane interfaces. It is stored in fatty membranes, ?anti-oxidant? molecules and water, and even flows from the Earth itself. Charge is transmitted via nerves and connective tissue meridians. If a potato can generate electricity, so can your body!)?In the end, it is the electrochemical charge terrain that determines biochemical reactions, molecular integrity and health.

An oxidative immune response must be powered with, and yet contained by, abundant electrons, or damage will result to the cells it is designed to protect. To halt inflammation, the cause of the immune response needs to be removed, and then the flames of the defensive assault itself must be extinguished so charge can rise to normal and cells can be repaired or replaced.

So if we equate disease to inflammation, and understand that inflammation is oxidation, then we can understand that the common denominator of ?disease? is oxidative stress ? chronic unrelenting ?fire? ? loss of electrons,?DNA dysfunction, and molecular and cellular deterioration.

Nearly undetectable low-level oxidative stress takes place even in healthy individuals and has become a focus of longevity research. Some of the most promising studies are concerned with the integrity of telomeres and mitochondrial membranes that take a beating, being at the center of metabolic oxidation and electron energy production. Fatty cell and mitochondrial membranes are prone to destruction when improper fats are consumed ? making an All-American low-fat, high-glycemic, high-grain-carb/sugar/vegetable oil diet a train-wreck in progress.

Impaired membranes cannot transport oxygen or other substances to the cell, nor can they hold electron charge. These conditions bring disease, invite pathogens, cause cells to revert to cancerous anaerobic state, and eventually lead to cell death by suffocation. Undamaged Omega fats and varied saturated fats like butter and coconut oil are essential; crooked hydrogenated/oxidized/trans-fats/easily-oxidized polyunsaturated oils and a grain-based diet kill.

So are there individual ?diseases? or just varied symptoms of inflammation expressing at the weakest seams in the boat ? the points of nutritional inadequacy, sites of infection, trauma or toxic metal concentration or areas of circulatory stagnation, low charge and poor oxygenation? It all depends on how you look at it ? on what level causes are sought.

We need oxygen to produce energy (electrons) and we need (electron) energy to deliver oxygen to mitochondria as a basic necessity of life. When net electron charge falls below optimum levels, oxygen/energy needs are unmet, inner balances shift toward acidity, hypoxia, oxidative stress, inflammation ? and there is your disease.

What to do? Examine the three major areas of concern: nutrition, toxins/radiations and emotional states/lifestyle choices.

Nutrition can easily be divided into acid-forming and alkalizing food groups. A healthy balance favors alkalinity since acids rob electrons and charge. Processing strips electrons from foods. Fats are critical to membrane construction, should be consumed in pristine un-oxidized form and should be protected by fat-soluble antioxidants like Vitamins A, D, E and K and astaxanthin. Nutrition includes pH buffering electrolyte minerals like potassium and magnesium, and enzyme/hormone essentials like zinc, selenium and iodine, all of which are egregiously deficient across the population.

Nutrition also feeds gut bacteria and determines populations. These symbiants are there for our benefit and deserve respect.

Nutrients can be rated on the ORAC scale (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), so high ORAC means high electron content, antioxidant power.?Look at cayenne and oregano, and small red beans and pecans, and direct your choices accordingly.

Nutrition is like the list of parts for a car: you need them all, and then to make it all work, the battery must have strong voltage. To make your biochemistry and DNA work, you need volts, too!

Toxins, metals and radiation all have one thing in common: they steal charge by generating oxidizing free radicals.? They also trigger an immune response that brings inflammation. Detox! Organic toxins can be destroyed by oxidation. Pathogen attractive positively-charged metals can be reduced, mobilized and excreted by raising charge, supplementing proteolytic enzymes and supplying chelators like chlorella. Radiation damage can be prevented or ameliorated with antioxidant electrons that scrub free radicals formed of damaged cell molecules.

The mind is like the computer in the car. It monitors and adjusts internal conditions while the conscious part in the driver?s seat sets the tone of being. When the mood is chronically fearful, internal conditions deteriorate. When spirits are sunny and loving, your cells sing and your lifestyle choices become proactive ? especially with healthy meals, exercise, breathing and physical activity at beneficial levels.

Check previous articles like ?Healer?s Toolbox? for some of the substances that work if employed correctly and quantitatively, giving this approach a practical validity and logic.? To reverse disease, the sources of inflammation must be oxidized/burned/removed and then the flames of inflammation snuffed out by an overwhelming electron boost to restore charge/voltage to operational levels and obtain sufficient oxygen to generate more charge and reverse damage. Hundreds of specific vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, enzymes, amino acids and fats have proven useful in studies covering a wide range of maladies ultimately boosting body voltage and returning internal conditions to viable parameters.

Perhaps we should reevaluate the words at the foundation of health science. What if ?diseases? are just symptoms? What if disease is simply inflammation, weak voltage?-oxidative stress? Maybe an artful and quantitative application of these forbidden principles should be at the foundation of healing.

How to Encourage Preschoolers at Home | Toddler Times

Preschool 1024x815 12 Things Your Child will Learn in Preschool and How to Encourage them from HomePreschool is a wonderful learning time for your toddler.

So many new friends will be made and a host of new skills will be acquired.Looking back at the end of the year, you?ll be so surprised at all of the changes your child has gone through.

But what exactly will they be doing in the classroom? And how can you as a parent encourage their learning from home?

I?ve rounded up 12 important things your child will learn and included tips for encouraging them. Here?s to a great year of preschool!

  • thumbs 01 12 Things Your Child will Learn in Preschool and How to Encourage them from Home

    Social Skills

Of all the skills children learn in a preschool environment, how to interact with peers is among the most important. At this age they learn primarily through play, exploring how to have their needs met and how to meet the needs of others around them.

At home tip: You can help support your toddler as he learns social skills by playing family, playing with dolls and other toys, and by modeling appropriate behavior. Remember, siblings are peers too!

At home tip: It's the parent's job to model conflict resolution to children. When problems arise between siblings or friends at home, use the opportunity to have your child offer potential solutions instead of simply directing the children. You might be surprised by what they come up with!
